Each area of the country has a rota of duty chemist shops, who open their pharmacy out of normal opening hours to allow prescription medicine (drugs prescribed by a doctor) to be dispensed and over the counter (OTC) remedies such as cold and flu medicines to be purchased. there are an ncreasing number of 24 hour and midnight pharmacies offering these services.
In an emergency a pharmacist can, at their discretion, provide up to a five day supply of your regular prescription drugs providing certain conditions are met. It is advisable to call ahead to a pharmacy if you are requesting an emergency supply.
Emergency contraception (the morning after pill) no longer requres a prescription in the UK. If you think you may need the morning after pill, do not delay, go to a chemist and ask to talk to the pharmacist it is confidential.
